Teagan Murdock, 18, of Hamburg, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Matrix heading north on Route 94 when she struck a Byram school bus that was making a left turn out of the Sussex County Charter School around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, Sparta Police Lt. John Lamon said.

Murdock — who had the right of way prior to the crash — was initially trapped in her vehicle, Lamon said. She was extricated and flown to Morristown for treatment of an arm injury as a precaution.

Murdock’s 15-year-old passenger was taken to Newton Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury, authorities said.

Six students ages 11 through 15 were on the bus, which was driven by 77-year-old James Dyer of Wharton. Two students were “shaken up” and treated at the scene.

The accident remained under investigation by the Sparta Police Traffic Bureau, Lamon said.
